Declaring the Migration a Failure

in

I recently wrote about my experience using the Fedora Linux upgrade option to migrate from i386 to x86_64 architecture. I am officially declaring the effort a failure.

Before I began, I did some research to determine whether I could use the Fedora Core upgrade (version 2 to 3) to migrate from 32-bit to 64-bit architecture. I did not find a definitive answer, but had reason to hope it might work. Now I see why it doesn't.

Notes on Migrating to Fedora Core x86_64

in

My Linux workstation is an AMD Athalon64 system that was running Fedora Core 2 for i386. Now that Fedora Core 3 is out, I thought I'd migrate the system from the 32-bit i386 architecture to the 64-bit x86_64. The process has not gone well. I thought I'd document what I've found so far, in case it might help someone else.
