Digital TV Changeover

I'm 55 plus but even 30 something tech people are not comfortable with the details of this future digital revolution. My co-workers were telling me last fall that I had to either get a new TV or a converter box by February 2008 ... then I heard something on the radio that said 2009 ... so I let them know it was not the coming (which is now) year but the following year ... BUT I bought a new HD TV in October 2007 so I will be ready anyway.
