I've confirmed that this URL is failing with an error saying, "Operation timed out with 0 out of -1 bytes received."
The problem is that Live Journal appears to have inserted a 30 second delay in the response to the link verification, and the Holidailies check is timing out after 10 seconds.
Here is a workaround: the URL you gave is actually a redirect to http://users.livejournal.com/_fool/. I think if you use that URL it should work correctly.
If you want to forward this to Live Journal, here is information that demonstrates the problem:
